Seminar ""Others" as Creators of New Understandings of Heritage" by Alina Kalachova

Faculty-led
May 4, 2023 - May 5, 2023

The seminar ""Others" as Creators of New Understandings of Heritage" was led by Alina Kalachova, who is an early career stage researcher in the field of heritage, as well as coordinator of the study program “Place of Heritage in Interdisciplinarity” within Nordic Summer University. The goal of the seminar was to foster interdisciplinary discussion around cultural heritage by investigating understandings of culture created by people currently experiencing migration. The voices of this group are systematically excluded from heritage studies. The encounter was planned as an educational event during which participants would be able not only listen to the speakers but also search for the answers on key questions hand by hand with invited experts. The invited speakers addressed academic migration studies (Irma Budginaitė-Mačkinė), as well as art in the context of migration (Valentyn Odnoviun).
