In this two-part workshop led by visual artist and BCB guest faculty April Gertler, we experimented with various methods of paper making and printing. Thematically, the workshop engaged with the notion of plant solidarity. In the first stage, we explored the possibilities of creative recycling and addressed their limitations and conceptual challenges; we also delved into the uses and potential meanings of different textures. In the second part, we reflected critically on the outcomes of the paper-making workshop and experimented with printing formats using a riso printing machine. The tangible effects of this workshop will be shared with EHCN colleagues in Puebla. The knowledge and skills acquired in the workshop as well as a range of material outcomes will be shared with BCB students in coming semesters.
