Online Event

In Honor of Earth was a virtual forum which united scholars, students, activists, and community members in discussing pressing local and global issues with a focus on environmental justice. Each presenter educated the audience about the areas of activism in which they are involved and shared how to become more involved in environmental justice movements.

Presenters featured:

Dr. Denisse Roca-Servat, who currently resides in Latin America and works with issues including technology surrounding water justice as well as alternatives to extractivism.

Dr. Sailesh Rao, an Earth and animal liberation activist who focuses on reducing carbon emissions through the use of technology as well as reshaping the human experience globally.

Jess Bristow, a local indigenous activist who has worked to fight environmental racism and the climate crisis. Bristow has represented her Indigenous community's interests in protecting sacred sites from exploitation and destruction through mining.

Dr. Rhonda Steinke, who works in the healing arts, conducted a guided meditation focused on enhancing human harmony with the Earth.

This event showcased numerous instances of how modern technology has been used to either exploit the Earth’s resources or to protect the Earth, as well as included accounts of how scientific, intellectual, and artistic work can provide a more just and sustainable future.
