For their creative component Isa works with experimental cartography, mainly with conceptual maps inspired by the work of Moses Maerz. Conceptual maps hold the potential to visually represent the intricate interconnections between different concepts, historical events, thinkers etc. Isa uses this method in their project to show the connections between ethnic discrimination in the Danish housing sector and the rise of the neoliberal economy, alongside the rising anti-Muslim sentiment within Denmark and how this has led to the racialization of particular urban spaces. The medium is critical of itself, of knowledge production and how knowledge and narratives are constructed. Maerz describes this type of mapping as a decolonial practice that challenges hegemonic narratives and power structures. It is more accessible than an academic article. The maps work at the intersection of art and politics.
